The Netherlands
Jurjen Drenth owns by far the largest stock of images of The Netherlands. Almost every detail can be found in tens of thousands of superb images. This preview shows six characteristic themes.
Landscapes
Landscapes
Surprisingly, Holland has a huge variation of landscapes within its boundaries. Not surprising, however, is that human hands built most of these. The country is full of adventure; many types of landscape lure the hiker and the cyclist to explore them.
Daily life
Daily life
See the Dutch at work, celebrating and socializing. The Dutch have many faces, varying from the hard worker to the over enthusiastic soccer fan. See how a small country can be so unique.
Seasons
Seasons
The weather is probably Holland’s most discussed subject, showing the influence of the very different seasons, each with it’s own characteristics and attraction. The mystical ‘Dutch Light’ has been a subject of discussion for centuries.
Water
Holland is built on water. This ever-present friend and foe lives on in both myths and in real life. Not surprisingly, the Dutch have become masters in the taming of water. This is visible throughout the country. Moreover - if not always wanted - it falls from the sky.
City life
Citylife
Dutch towns and cities often have a medieval layout reflecting the rich history of the Netherlands. It’s not only the architecture that’s interesting; the outgoing spirit of the Dutch people is also illustrated in the form of shops, restaurants, café’s and the like.
Economy
Transport and trade are key words in Dutch economic history. Its location on the North Sea, and at the mouth of large European rivers, has formed the basis of a centuries old tradition. No wonder trading is a Dutch specialty; the many large multinational firms with Dutch roots are proof of this.
