Dutch Masters
Jurjen Drenth is a master of revival, having the ability to show scenes and people in a way that even surprises the Dutch. He concentrates on the almost forgotten or hidden parts of Dutch culture.
Van Gogh
Few people realize that the country as it was seen and painted by Vincent van Gogh 150 years ago, can still be seen today. Jurjen Drenth visited the places made famous by Vincent’s paintings. Many windmills, farms, lanes and fields are still there, tucked away around sleepy towns like Nuenen. The photographs show farmers still living in historical conditions without telephone and television, drinking their traditional coffee, harvesting potatoes together or inspecting the sunflower fields. Drenth has managed to paint the pictures again, 150 years after Van Gogh, but still with similar results.
Vermeer
Johannes Vermeer, one of the famous 17th century Dutch painters, is synonymous with the city of Delft. Although his works were limited and Vermeer died a poor man, leaving many mysteries behind, his legacy is enormous, in terms of both his technique and his subjects. His paintings illustrate the daily life in Delft and a series of portraits of his contemporaries. Jurjen Drenth brings Vermeer’s Delft back to life in his photos.
Rembrandt
Rembrandt was a phenomenon. His drive and ambition were matched by a brilliant technique and provocative opinions on how to depict his subjects. Drenth takes you on a journey through the Leiden and Amsterdam of the Golden Age, where Rembrandt grew up and celebrated his successes as a painter. These photographs are published in the book 'The Rembrandt Guide', available at Dutchshop.nl,
